Realistic oil paintings make your animal friend “come to life.” The texture and body of oil paint is like no other medium (in my opinion). Choose 2-3 good quality photos of the animal you want a painting of and I will work with you to choose colors and whether you want the frame chosen by me (price varies). Acrylic paintings are a lovely way to capture a likeness of your pet with fun, vibrant colors. It can be realistic or more imaginative and playful.

Some photos can lend themselves to some exploration and creative expression. This painting was a commission in which the dog’s owner gave me permission to use some colors that weren’t in the original photo. This is what excites an artist – to be told to use their own judgment and create with their own interpretation.

The photo really did look like this! I love seeing the different expressions on dogs’ faces in the photos taken by the owners. You can snap pictures of your animal at different times and catch certain expressions that a photo shoot won’t always catch. So, keep snapping those photos and send me 2-3 of your favorites. I can work from most photos. If you have a question, just send me message (https://rachelhollandart.com/contact/).

As a way to remember your special bond with your pet, an original piece of handmade artwork can bring joy to your life, even when you can’t hold them any longer. Can I create a special painting of a pet to help someone in your life who is mourning the loss of their friend?

Dogs are not the only animal I paint! Does your furry feline look like it is modeling for you to take its picture? If so, an oil portrait will allow that beauty to shine in a new way for you to enjoy every day.

Animals in a natural setting can be even more enjoyable to remember. The day at the pond was a fond memory for the owner of these three pooches. I actually took two separate photos and combined them into this one image. This can be done in special commissioned work.
